Dam Open Day

Join our Rangers at one of our big Dam Open Days - an exclusive chance to venture into Pen y Garreg Dam and up to the central tower. You’ll enjoy a bird's-eye view of the dam wall – and learn about the feat of engineering that made Elan.

Park at Penbont car park and take a walk through the woodland, up the steps to the dam entrance. There is no need to book, simply turn up anytime between 1pm and 4pm.

There are steps inside the dam which may be wet and in some areas there are low light levels. Children should be carefully supervised at all times.

Discover Elan: Storytelling Evening

Join Phil Okwedy as he weaves five Welsh tales together: a poor farmer defies death at the hands of his brothers and then sets out along the old drover’s roads of Wales. With the help of one black bird and five black cattle he will conquer destitution, make and then lose a fortune, and all this in the name of love and revenge.

Dambusters Walk

A 4 mile guided walk to learn about the area, including the remains of Nant y Gro Dam which was used for tests before the WW2 Dambusters Raid.

There is a steep climb of 40 metres up the steps to the top of the dam and then a very steep 140 metre climb.

Discover Elan: Beginners’ Mountain Biking

Ladies, come and enjoy mountain biking with an introductory coaching session and ride with local Breeze Champion, Pippa Boss. The ride starts from outside the Visitors Centre, where you can hire bikes.

Bring water and snacks and a spare tube for your bike. Helmets essential, wear appropriate clothing and bring a raincoat just in case. We will return to the visitors centre for well –earned tea and cake!
