Visit Elan

In Brief

Escape to Elan! We are a world away from the relentless pace of modern life but close enough to make a memorable day trip from Birmingham (where much of our water travels to!), Cardiff and Manchester.

Our Visitor Centre below Caban Coch Dam is a good place to learn about the remarkable building of the dams and the alternative ways to explore. There is a gift shop with useful maps, local produce and mementos of Elan. We also have a spacious cafe alongside the River Elan which serves homemade snacks and meals.

If you are interested in coming as part of a larger group by coach it is always worth getting in touch ahead of your visit. We are always pleased to welcome groups, and have dedicated Rangers who will make sure you have a visit to remember.

Dogs: We welcome well behaved dogs into our Visitor Centre, this includes the exhibition area, shop and café (initially a designated area will be identified for this).

Dogs must be kept under very close control or on a lead on all parts of the Estate due to the presence of livestock. Even around the Visitor Centre there are sheep, young children and bikes, meaning that your dog should be kept close to you at all times.

We also provide external seating, water bowls and tie points if you wish to eat outside with your dog. Please ensure that you clear up after your dog and either take the bag away with you or place it in the bins at the Visitor Centre.

Entrance to the Visitor Centre is free, and the £3.00 parking charge covers you for the whole of the Estate's car parks, all day. This charge goes towards the maintenance of the estate and allows us to keep it open for visitors. Please buy your ticket on the day from the cash only machines  (correct change only) in the car parks or from the gift shop (cash or card).
