Changes to Visitor Centre and Café Opening Times w/c 20 January 2020

This week we will be installing new equipment in the turbine hall, this will allow the visitor centre to be fed electricity directly from the Caban Coch hydroelectric turbine. As such the visitor centre will be closed on Tuesday 21st and from 2pm on Thursday 23rd January 2020.
The hydro turbines generate roughly 12 GWh per year from around the Elan Valley. This is enough to power 3,500 homes. Although Dwr Cymru purchases 100% renewable electricity there are some inefficiencies with transporting electricity around the UK. We are striving to improve our environmental performance and are pleased to be taking this opportunity to provide power to the Visitor Centre from our neighbouring hydro-electric generators.
We are also making improvements to our kitchens therefore the café will be closed from Monday and due to re-open on Friday 24th January. Our brand new catering trailer ‘Y Gegin’ will in situ during these days offering hot drinks and snacks to keep visitors fed and watered.
The car park will remain open as usual as will the children’s play area but please note that toilets will not be available when the visitor centre is closed. The nearest toilets are however situated at Elan Village.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this time while we work to improve our sustainability and catering offer. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
