Elan Links: Local History Group
After a fascinating and informative Local History Day organised by Elan Links on 30th October 2018, Project 6 facilitated the setting up of a Local History Group. This happened in January 2019 and the group have met on the first Tuesday of every month (except August) since then. All are welcome and it’s free to come along - we meet at 7 p.m. in The Crown in Rhayader thanks to the generosity of landlord Andy Lewis. As well as lively discussions about the characters, stories and history of the area, members bring in artefacts such as old photographs, money boxes, earmark books and calendars which generate further memories and reminiscences. At some future meetings there will be speakers on different topics and the group will be showcasing some of the research work they have been doing at an exhibition later in the year. The next meeting will be on 3rd September 2019.
Training is going to be arranged for the taking of oral histories, for digitising materials to make an online archive and correctly cataloguing items already in the collection.
If anyone else is interested in joining or if they have any photographs, documents or artefacts they would like to talk to me about or would like more information about the group, please get in touch Stephanie.kruse@elanvalley.
