To celebrate the Festival of Archaeology (13 - 28 July), Jenny Hall and Paul Sambrook of TRYSOR Archaeology will be leading a pleasant, early evening walk from Nantgwyllt Church to the Cwm Elan Lead Mine.
A 5 mile round trip. Moderate walk on footpaths. Meet at Nantgwyllt Church car park.

Come and join us looking for one of our rarer butterflies in the uplands of the Elan Valley.
The Large Heath butterfly can be found near cotton grass in damp places.
We are looking for volunteers to come and hopefully help count them.
The session will require walking in difficult terrain, so a reasonable level of fitness is required.

Internationally exhibited artist Marcelo Sánchez-Camus will be launching his new book, Elan Calls. Marcelo was a previous artist in residence in the Elan Valley, and created this book as an alternative walking guide to the valley. Join us for an exciting day/afternoon to launch the book which includes live music, readings of the book and a self-driven tour of the valley.

Explore the Elan Valley by bike on a Breeze ride with local champion, Pippa Boss. In the morning join a family ride along the Elan Valley Trail and in the afternoon an introductory women’s mountain bike adventure.
Minimum age 5 for the family trail (U5 on trailer or bike seat), 16 for women’s afternoon ride. Children must be supervised.

Join our Rangers at one of our big Dam Open Days - an exclusive chance to venture into Pen y Garreg Dam and up to the central tower. You’ll enjoy a bird's-eye view of the dam wall – and learn about the feat of engineering that made Elan.
Park at Penbont car park and take a walk through the woodland, up the steps to the dam entrance. There is no need to book, simply turn up anytime between 1pm and 4pm.
There are steps inside the dam which may be wet and in some areas there are low light levels. Children should be carefully supervised at all times.

Platforms, bridges, unusual obstacles, a zip line and an adrenaline jump – all in a stunning setting alongside Caban Coch Reservoir.
You don’t need experience or to be super fit, however you must be over 1.4m tall, have a waist of less than 43” and be able to climb a rope ladder.
You will also need transport, stout shoes and appropriate clothing.
All young people must be supervised by a responsible adult.

Hit the water and get a different view of the Valley from a two person kayak.
After a safety briefing, head off around the reservoir in the company of your instructor, and learn about the history of the dams on the way.
Suitable for beginners and those with some experience.
Minimum age 8, you will need transport, shoes to get wet, appropriate clothing, a complete change of clothes and a towel just in case!
