Exhibition: The Natural World in Stained Glass and Feathers

Mandi, ‘The Feather Lady’, based in North Somerset is best known for her exquisite paintings of birds of prey on real feathers. This unconventional medium has become her signature style and several of her feather paintings have won awards in various Wildlife Art Exhibitions including being selected as a finalist in The David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of The Year Exhibition on two occasions.
 
David Wettner is a stained glass artist, and also painter in oils, living in Mid Wales.

Creative Elan: Pottery Making Workshop

Let Alex Allpress guide you to create and decorate your own piece of pottery. Come and play with clay as you create and decorate an egg cup, bowl, mug or more! No experience necessary.

Dambusters Walk

A 4 mile guided walk to learn about the area, including the remains of Nant y Gro Dam which was used for tests before the WW2 Dambusters Raid.

There is a steep climb of 40 metres up the steps to the top of the dam and then a very steep 140 metre climb.

Meet at the Visitor Centre.

Dam Open Day

Join our Rangers at one of our big Dam Open Days - an exclusive chance to venture into Pen y Garreg Dam and up to the central tower. You’ll enjoy a bird's-eye view of the dam wall – and learn about the feat of engineering that made Elan. 

Park at Penbont car park and take a walk through the woodland, up the steps to the dam entrance. There is no need to book, simply turn up anytime between 1pm and 4pm.

Roman Camp Ramble

Blow away the winter blues with a hike to a Roman Camp. This largely moorland walk takes us past Penygarreg Dam, climbs 200 metres to Crugyn before dropping down to the mountain road. The return route passes the Roman Camp and Esgair Parfedd then drops down to the Penygarreg Reservoir. A 10 mile walk with climbs and rough ground plus fords make this a challenging walk requiring a reasonable degree of fitness. Meet Powys Ramblers member Dave at Penbont car park.

Bird Walk - Woodland Birds

Join local bird watcher Tony Ware on a walk through the RSPB Carngafallt and Cnwch woodlands near the Visitor Centre.

Bring binoculars and wear appropriate clothing/footwear.

Meet outside the Elan Valley Visitor Centre.

There is no need to book and beginners to birdwatching are most welcome.
