Walkers braved the elements for Charity Fundraiser
The 'Roundabout Team' have declared the 2016 Reservoir Roundabout another success following a good turnout for this annual challenge event aimed at long distance walkers and runners held in the beautiful Elan Valley on Saturday 9th January 2016.
The event comprises of 2 routes, a 13 mile and a more challenging 20 mile distance. Despite the heavy going over saturated ground and showers early and late in the day, the event had 4 hours of dry weather and even a few glimmers of sunshine, in which to enjoy the spectacular sight of all 5 dams overflowing on the 20 mile route.
Plans are already underway for next year’s event which will mark the 50th Anniversary of the 1st Reservoir Roundabout in 1967 which will be held on Saturday 7th January 2017.
The organisers wish to thank the Elan Valley Trust and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water for permitting the event to take place, the St John’s crew with their continued support and presence at the event every year and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water for opening up the Visitor Centre to accommodate the early start.
Proceeds from the walk this year will go to Rhayader St John’s Ambulance, Wales Air Ambulance & the local defibrillator scheme in Rhayader.
The organisers are particularly delighted to have supported the Rhayader division of the St Johns Ambulance, towards a new £70,000 ambulance. The new road ambulance will replace the current model and will have a 4-wheel drive capability allowing greater access to the countryside offering the full range of services in addition to its specialist off-road Landrover which is called out in support to the NHS.
