Events in the Elan Valley for April 2008

2 Wed Dam Open Day

A chance for you to go into Pen y Garreg Dam and up to the central tower. Our team of Rangers will be on hand to direct people and answer any questions. Children should be carefully supervised at all times. Park at Penbont car park and take a walk through the woodland, up the steps to the Dam entrance. Dam open from 1pm to 4pm. Entrance £1 - children free. All proceeds to the charity WaterAid. 

 

20 Sun Birdwatching Safari

Pete Jennings, Head Countryside Ranger and county bird recorder will lead a Landrover trip looking for the typical breeding birds of the area. Suitable for beginners and experienced alike.  Meet at the Visitor Centre at 9.30am, back about 1pm.  Please bring binoculars if you have them and suitable clothing/footwear as there will be short walks.

26 Sat Rhayader on the Ocean Floor

Why do we find the remains of fossil plankton 430 million years old mixed with rounded pebbles of rocks over 600 million old in a quarry worked in the 1890s? A short walk around the Caban Coch Dam area looking at how the Cambrian Mountains were formed 380 million years ago. Led by John Davies, regional geologist for CCW. Meet at 2pm at the Visitor Centre, back about 4pm.
